The Saints – (I’m) Stranded
While the Ramones were blazing trails in the States and promoting punk in all its glory, their equal Down Under released this gem right about the same time. This 1977 release is obviously well ahead of its time and represents an often forgotten piece of the early punk movement. Fuzzy, distorted, treble-filled guitar permeates throughout the fast-paced album that’s easily as good as anything the Ramones or any of the other well-known punk bands ever produced. Interestingly, Jason tells me Marty Willson-Piper is currently collaborating with The Saints, or at least some ex-members of The Saints. I can’t imagine what that one will be like, but I’ll definitely want to check it out.

Interesting choices. With the Ramones craking out so many albums, it was a sure bet that one of them would earn the label ‘under-appreciated’.
Interesting take on David Byrne solo albums. The ones I have are pretty good, but they don’t make it into heavy rotation in the media devices.
Julian Cope’s World Shut Your Mouth was genius. I was in a band at the time and we looked to Julian and that era for inspiration. I saw Teardrop Explodes live shortly before their demise and they were amazing. While Echo and the Bunnymen got more press in the U.S. Teardrop Explodes were the real deal.
