Practically complete now:
The trim for the top of the window was one of the hardest parts of this project. I had my heart sit on flexible trim, but it was pricey enough that I decided I would give it a couple trial and error runs to see if I couldn’t do it myself.
Finding the radius of the circle that matched the arch top window was slightly humbling. I knew that I should be able to figure the radius with geometry (ie Circle Segment), but the math eluded me and I ended up getting my rough dimensions by dropping a center point down from the top center of the window, checking the upper corners, and adjusting until I had a proper reveal. That got me close enough to cut out a pattern out of cardboard and fine tune that.
Then came the question of cutting a clean line that was the radius of a circle almost 6 feet wide. I ended up building a jig to fake a trammel arm setup, and used that to cut a full size pattern:
Pattern looks good in regards to the reveal:
For the real deal, I joined two pieces of wide stock, used my pattern and a pattern cutting bit:
Primed and attached:
After wrapping up the loose ends outside (paint not included here), I’ll be able to finish the inside- we’re going with a window seat. Sketch up below- it will be interesting to see what the end result looks like compared to the preliminary drawing:
