ODU falls to Michigan in NIT Final Four

ODU MonarchsODU struggled Tuesday and fell to Michigan 66-43. ODU was up early 21-14, but big runs by Michigan proved to be more than the Monarchs could handle. The normally productive Isiah Hunter had a rough night on the floor, coming up with only 2 points on 1-for-15 shooting. We also lost Dahi for the game with a knee injury in the first half.

ODU plays without a deep bench and it caught up to the Monarchs in this game. A good showing for ODU in a very strong CAA conference this year.

The Colonial Athletic Association sent 4 men’s basketball teams to the post season. UNCW and George Mason went to the NCAA’s and Hofstra and ODU went to the NIT.

ODU matched up well this year against the 3 other post season teams:

  • ODU beat UNCW in their only meeting this year
  • ODU split games with this year’s Final Four George Mason team
  • ODU lost twice to Hofstra in the regular season only to beat them in the NIT tournament on Hofstra’s home floor, snapping a 21 home game winning streak (2nd longest in the country). ODU was also the last team prior to that win to beat Hofstra at home, in January 2005.

Congratulations ODU! I am rooting for both Alex Loughton and Isiah Hunter to find spots in the pros! Good luck!
