One of our projects at the Rocky Valley Estates is the installation of a pair on new sliding glass doors on the playroom (aka, the South Wing). I needed to cut some floor tile and my dremel just wasn’t getting it done.
I bought a Ridgid angle grinder. The Ridgid drill/driver set I have are excellent cordless tools, so I went with more of the same with the grinder. The tool I bought was “bare”, which meant no battery and no case.
I had built a [custom tool box for a floor nailer], I figured I could do the same for the grinder.
For this box, I had wood scraps, predominantly long strips left over from ripping wider pieces down to size. I ripped my scraps down to roughly uniform width, then glued up the strips into rough panels:
After cleaning up the glued boards, I did some rough sizing on the box:
Next up was working out the box joints. These came out better than my floor-nailer efforts, but still too much tear-out for my taste:
The opening for one of the two sliding doors I was replacing in the playroom was actually a sliding door-sized window. The lid for this box came from some of the wood frame of the removed window. I had to cut around the ancient caulk and sealant, so the lid was also a glue-up component:
Details and fine tuning followed:
Everything fits in the box, mission accomplished!
Everything fits in the box AND the lid closes! Even better!
