We had some several friends and family members take part in the Little Rock Marathon this year…
Lady Colglazier, the lovely wife’s mother, took part as a walker this year.
Here she is right around the 10 mile mark, showing good form and wearing her “Team Pilates Studio of Little Rock” colors with pride.
One of Lady Colglazier’s walking partners and adored extended family member (my sister-in-law’s mother-in-law) Suz Mallory is shown here with a potentially puzzled look on her face.
I think she is wondering who the proof-reader was.
Richard Vaughn is a friend of Roy’s- that guy is a hoss. I saw several wheelchair participants, but everyone else I saw had fancy high tech, low slung recumbants.
I think (not sure) that this is one of Rich’s wheelchair basketball rigs.
Paula Movie Mallory is seen here at a leisurely walking pace.
Compare that to the smoking pace she had last year as a competitive walker.
If I remember correctly, the massive speakers on the front lawn are pumping out “Chariots of Fire”.
Look at that stride! Paula was originally declared the third place winner of her walking division, but then, through some kind of intrigue (a scandal maybe- a walker who ran a little bit, as well?) the second place finisher was disqualified and Paula moved up to second place!
Here we see another Team Pilates Studio walker at the finish line- this is Trudi Krumpe. At least I think it is- there is a better than 50% chance I have the spelling wrong of both the first and last names. Actually, there is probably about 30% chance that I don’t even have the right name at all.
Jeanne and Suz cross the finish line …
… and wave to the adoring crowd.
One of the Little Rock Marathon’s claims to fame is having the biggest finisher’s medals. Check out that hardware!
More finishers showing off their hardware. The building in the background is the State Capitol, which is neat in itself, as it is a scaled down version of the US Capitol in Washington, D.C. The Arkansas Secretary of State website has some great pictures of the capitol for those folks that want to see more
Roy sent me this. I am impressed by your website. Thanks for putting my picture on it and also for the kind words. (Looks like I’m sneaking past the runner in the picture with me.
I truly enjoy the marathons. And, yes, this is my basketball wheelchair. I have access to those high tech chairs. But the thing is, I do these races for the heath and conditioning. There is none of that with those “bicycles.” It takes almost no strength to get one started and they go as fast as 35 MPH. (The “winner’s” chair has 16 speeds and a rear differential and beats even the Kenyans!)
In any event, besides wanting to challenge my body, I enjoy “running” the race with other people instead of running off and leaving them. This is a community and social event. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
Again, thanks for publishing my picture. Makes me feel — famous! 😉
What great pictures!!! you really captured the intensity and the fun of the race. I do agree that someone needs to proof-read Roy’s signs… last time I checked, “birthday” had a D in it!!!
Congrats to all the finishers!!! It is a great accomplishment for all.
