Guitar Strings

What kind of strings do you use for both electric and acoustic and what do you see as their merits? I’ve bounced around a lot. I always liked the Blue Steel pretty well for the electric, but I don’t even recall the ones I used to buy for the acoustic.

I have no particular affinity for a particular brand strings. I used to always buy a particular brand of phosphor-bronze strings for my acoustic, but I haven’t seen that brand in so long I can’t even remember who made them. I could recognize them by sight if I were ever to run across them again.

I haven’t settled on a brand or even a particular type of string for my electric. I have been using relatively thick gauge strings for my electric. When I had my guitar set up, the technician asked me what kind of strings I was using. The only thing I could tell him was “heavier than average, since I only know how to play an acoustic”. My strings needed to be switched out on both guitars now, so I will report back with what gets strung.

I only have the two acoustic guitars these days. One is a classical style guitar and is string with the plastic (and plastic wound with metal for the thickest two strings) strings. I kinda like them. They’re much easier on the fingers. The other guitar is a heavier instrument and is strung with relatively thin bronze-wound strings. I play the plastic one more often, but only because it’s easier on my fingers as an infrequent player. I think the brand of both is whatever that very popular brand that one sees everywhere, maybe Martin?
