Spam attack

The comment spam has gotten quite thick lately- if you, gentle reader, find that your comment hasn’t appeared after ~12-24 hours, it is quite likely your comment was spam killed.  My personal email filters are holding up pretty good, but bturnip.com is being spoofed for the return address of spams and I am getting hundreds of emails per day in my catchall bin from pissed off or politely concerned email servers all over the world about the messages various fake users of bturnip.com are sending out.

I can’t wait until spam stops being a financially rewarding business…

more new look

I was pretty pleased with my serene Asiatic Lily theme for a while. The chance those happy days might last was dashed against the rocks the moment Malone observed that my cheerful lily header image might be just a bit too saccharine for everyday consumption. Continue reading

Your fine work with your new camera reminds me that I’ve been meaning to share the works of a photographer I discovered while in SF. Keep in mind that when I say I “discovered” him I’m sure he’s probably already about the most famous photographer in the world and he has his own gallery on Pier 39 in SF and I’m just a know-nothing but, hey, he’s new to me and I thought his stuff was great. A lot of the prints at the store on Pier 39 weren’t that unreasonably priced either. Here’s a link to the site:

new look!

When you only have 1 or 2 readers, you do what you must to keep them coming back. I have retired the ninja dogs in winter theme with my fresh new Lily theme.

The technical details:

  • Used a Canon Rebel XT digital for the original shot.
  • The Asiatic Lilies are from the overgrown flowerbeds in front of my house.
  • A little Gimp here, Gimp there and I had a new new header.
  • Simple easy-cheesy mod of the Kubrick WordPress theme.

Like it? Don’t like it? Let me know- your feedback is the only thing keeping me going in today’s climate of terrorism-profiteering.

Futile Communications

I have seen this cartoon before, but it always gets a laugh out of me:

thumbnail, click for full cartoon
I don’t have an attribution for source, send one and I will be happy to add it*. Click on the thumbnail at left to see the whole cartoon.

* A google search indicates it might the be work of monkeynoodle.org.  Or it could be just another site showing the cartoon.  In either case it is in a handy pdf format over on monkeynoodle.

It has been almost 2 months since I rambled on about some of the great things that are available for for download for free free free as in not pirated but really free for download. In this case the free stuff was 3GB+ of music from the SXSW. Even in 2 months, I have probably digested, at most, 10% of all that free music. Despite of the glut of undiscovered music at my disposal, I am here to point to another great resource for downloading even more free music without any interference from the RIAA or a guilty conscience.
