ODU falls to Michigan in NIT Final Four

ODU MonarchsODU struggled Tuesday and fell to Michigan 66-43. ODU was up early 21-14, but big runs by Michigan proved to be more than the Monarchs could handle. The normally productive Isiah Hunter had a rough night on the floor, coming up with only 2 points on 1-for-15 shooting. We also lost Dahi for the game with a knee injury in the first half.

ODU plays without a deep bench and it caught up to the Monarchs in this game. A good showing for ODU in a very strong CAA conference this year.

The Colonial Athletic Association sent 4 men’s basketball teams to the post season. UNCW and George Mason went to the NCAA’s and Hofstra and ODU went to the NIT.

ODU matched up well this year against the 3 other post season teams: Continue reading

ODU Monarchs face Michigan in NIT Final Four!

ODU MonarchsODU wins a date in Madison Square Garden against Michigan on March 28.  ODU won an un-pretty game on Hofstra’s home court Wedsneday.  Hofstra had won 21 straight home games.  The last person to beat Hofstra on their own court?  Surprise, it was ODU, back in January 2005.

ODU Monarchs play division rival Hofstra in NIT Elite Eight

ODU monarchs!

Two good CAA teams face each other in the NIT quarterfinals. ODU plays division rival Hofstra on the Pride’s homecourt on Weds, televised on ESPN2.
The CAA was a great conference this year. UNCW and George Mason rightfully made the NCAA’s and Hofstra is one of those teams that could have been in the NCAA’s this year if the bubble hadn’t been so packed. Hofstra really plays ODU tough. Hofstra swept ODU this year, and was the only team last season to beat ODU at home in the Constant Convocation Center* in Norfolk. Really one of the best matchups in the CAA.

If ODU wins this game, it will face off with the winner of the Michigan/Miami game in Madison Square Garden.

* Cool footnote about the Constant Center: It played host to the first and second rounds of the NCAA Women’s Basketball tournament this year.

Before you criticize, what are you doing?

Sometimes people get their art thing going, to the frustration of other regular “non-artsy” folks. I consider myself pretty much in the latter camp, but I can see how it would kind of interesting to observe what happens when an object leaves its intended domain and becomes something different in the process.

For example, the steadfast wheelbarrow of consumerism, a shopping cart, is tossed into a river where silt slowy grabs hold and plants embrace the submerged cart as an underwater foothold. The act of removing it and tossing it in a river has changed the pupose, intended or otherwise, that said cart serves in the world. Hanging that shopping cart from the ceiling, still covered with clinging vegetation, kept company by other repurposed siblings of its own kind, in a gallery is somewhat interesting- for about an hour.  I find myself unwilling to lablel the shopping cart hanger an artist. But that is neither here nor there.

voo2do

It was on my to do list to write a nice little web app to track my to do list. Fortunately, there is one already available at [voo2do]. No download, this is completely web-hosted, meaning that data resides on somebody else’s servers. Simple with nifty features.

Of course, use the standard precautions when your data is being hosted on servers not in your direct control- don’t use it to keep track of your secret evil to-do list, don’t put sensitive or crucial data to which you must have 24×7 access, don’t plan on it being free forever (though it currently is free).

Update: 2/28 Well, site seems to be down. See the caution above about the need to have constant uninterupted access to your data.

Grep-tastic!

Simple problem:

Show me the lines of code in a file that have opening parentheses without closing parentheses. Nested and multiple parens need not be considered.

My solution:

  • grep "(" testfile | grep -v ")"

Better solution:

  • grep '([^)]*$' testfile

updgrade complete

Most of the upgrades should be transparent.  For those that write posts, my previous changes to the dashboard have temporarily been undone.  When time permits, I will bring back the streamlined version.
