Your cries in the night like 1000 cats yowling- “why no new posts?” and “where is the little bit of wonderfulness that gets me through the day?” and “fix my damn site” and “get your authentic fake handbags for 90% off at the link below“. Only one in four of your cries in the night sound like they might not be completely legitimate…pretty good ratio, overall.
No new posts, because we’ve been busy. Really busy. Without further ado, let me present to you Charlotte Kate:
Born August 2. 8 pounds and 7 ounces, 20 1/2 inches long. One dimple on the right side cheek.
We’ll probably call her Charlie Kate, though she sorta feels like a Charlotte might fit just fine, too.
Mother and child are doing very well.

Very flat, 2D, mockup for fence design #2. This one is closer to what I want. Next up:
Picture looks less cool than my previous effort, largely because of the lack of 3d. Doesn’t help that the bottom rail is missing in this diagram and there is no depth on the 4×4 posts on the end.
Got my proportions worked out by approximating the golden ratio for the fence panel width based on a 40″ height, then again on setting the middle rail height and the offsets on the short pickets. Feels better, I’ll probably try another mockup in 3d before I start digging post holes.
I want something distinctive but not too fussy for a garden fence design. This was attempt #1. In the ballpark of what I want, but not any closer than that:
Plenty of work has gone into the garden, with plenty more before we’re done for the year.
Both beds are built and we had a few yards of compost/soil dumped in the yard. Gabe acted like it was Christmas in April he was so excited to play in the dirt pile.
While Gabe rolled around in the dirt, Graydon insisted on being as helpful as possible. I was shoveling dirt into a wheelbarrow, so she was going to shovel dirt, too…

And she kept plugging with her one scoop of dirt, I’m very proud of her budding work ethic…
Gabe got worked up for the chance to water the garden- he was much more open to work if it meant soaking stuff with a hose.
White stakes are marking out a future fence that will hopefully keep the rabbits out. I’m planning on building it so that I can add two more beds to the left with minimal fence reconfiguration fuss.
I’m trying to turn some of the bumper crop of rocks into the walkway instead of having gravel brought in. The soil is so full of rocks, I’m not too worried about having a deep sand bed for the pavers. All I need to do now is find a ton (probably literally) of large-but-flattish rocks and finish up the walkway, put a cap of natural stone on the cement block beds, and then build the fence. And a spigot. And something else I’ve probably forgotten. And then, with a little luck and low weeds, I can concentrate on bringing in the tomatoes!
